Settlements and Places |
|
The various settlements are grouped according to size. Some are based on 'real' places an archaeological evidence (Adgefin, Bebbanburgh, Thirlings, Maelmin etc) and some are entirely made up (Kirkby, Ewewic). However, to make things easier for players and Storytellers, I have not stuck to the original dates and layout of the sites. While the real places are in the same location I may have added or removed some buildings or changed the date of occupation (such as Adgefrin was abandoned in 685 and Bebanburgh was left in the 990s, I use both in the chronicle I am currently running in 1066, Invasion). The original informations for the various places can be found in the list of references. Areas / Burghs / Towns / Villages / Caerns Areas Burghs - Slightly larger
than villages, and surrounded by a wooden palisade as to be easily defendable. Towns - Large groups of buildings, nearly always surrounded by a palisade and capable of supplying a warship and crew. Bebbenburgh (Bamburgh) - A large burgh, and the seat
of the Earls of Northumbria. Located on the east coast. Ewewic - A fairly large township on the southern slopes
of the Maelmin basin. Villages - Small collections
of houses and other buildings. Kirkby - Slightly smaller than Maelmin, and located about
one mile SE of the larger burgh. Thirlings - Caerns - The caerns of the local Garou
