8th Century Timeline

The majority of the information is historically accurate, though World of Darkness events are marked by italics and events that I have added are marked in red. As Northumbria was formed from two other Kingdoms - Deira and Bernicia and as such was occasionally ruled by two kings, the years in which Northumbria was ruled buy a single king are highlighted blue.

705 Northumbria: Aldfrith/Osred Aldfrith dies, the throne is seized by Edwulf, who in turn is defeated by Aldfrith's sons Osred at the battle of Bamburgh. Osred becomes King.
709 Northumbria: Osred Bishop Wilfrid dies.
711 Northumbria: Osred Dux Bertfrith leads a Northumbrian campaign against the Picts and defeats them in Manau Gododdin.
716 Northumbria: Osred/Ceonred Osred is killed south of the Humber, aged 18.
718 Northumbria: Coenred/Osric  
729 Northumbria: Osric/Ceolwulf Northumbrians sign a peace treaty with the Picts.
735 Northumbria: Ceolwulf The venerable Bede dies
737 Northumbria: Ceolwulf/Eadberht Ceolwulf abdicates in favour of Eadberht.
750 Northumbria: Eadberht King Edbert imprisons Bishop Cynewulf of Lindisfarne at Bamburgh and besieges Prince Offa, son of the late King Aeldfrith in Lindisfarne Priory. Almost dead from hunger, he is eventually dragged from his sanctuary.
752 Northumbria: Eadberht King Eadberht of Northumbria takes Kyle from King Dumnagual of Strathclyde, on the death of the latter's father, Teudebur.
757 Northumbria: Eadberht/Oswulf Eadberht becomes a monk, and his son Oswulf succeeds him.
758 Northumbria: Oswulf/Aethelwald Oswulf is murdered by his household and Aethelwald Moll succeeds him.
765 Northumbria: Aethelwald/Alhred Aethelwald abdicates and is suceeded by Alhred.
774 Northumbria: Alhred/Athelred Alhred is expelled by the people of Northumbria and Aethelred, Aethelwald's son suceeds him.
778 Northumbria: Aethelred/Aelfwald I  
789 Northumbria: Aelfwald I/Osred II Aelfwald is killed by Sicga and suceeded by Osred, Alhred's son.
790 Northumbria: Osred II/Aethelred Osred II is betrayed and exiled, Aethelred returns and takes the throne. Osred returns and is killed. Aethelred also drowns the sons of Aelfwald.
793 Northumbria: Aethelred The first recorded viking raid. They attacked the monastary on Lindisfarne.
794 Northumbria: Aethelred/Eardwulf Aethelred is murdered by his own court and Charlemagne declares Northumbrians traitors, murderers and worse than heathens. Vikings attack the monastery at Jarrow.
